- Once a duck went for a little walk. It was lovely weather. She was feeling carefree and happy
- Coming to the edge of the woods, suddenly she saw the fox sitting against a tree. “Ha, good timing”, said the fox. “I’m starving and a delicious duck will be tasty”.
- “Dearest fox”, said the duck, do you want to eat me? Pity I don’t feel to good today. I have most likely eaten something wrong. I believe I must throw up”.
- ”Yuck”, cried the fox, a sick duck, I don’t like. Go early to bed and get well soon”.
- Relieved, the duck went home, on her way she picked a bunch of flowers to celebrate her escape.
- But when she was cosy at home drinking a cup of tea, she thought: “What must I say to the fox the next time I meet him?
- The next day the duck had to think of a new list. She got a shovel out of the shed…
- … started to dig a hole. Deeper and deeper she dug, when the hole was big enough she put some thin twigs on top.
- The she sprinkled some leaves and to finish a layer of earth. So, now, no one could see what a beautiful trap she had made.
- Early in the morning the fox woke up and stretched. Oh boy I’m hungry, he thought. Today I will eat the duck, today she will not get away. Hurredly he got under way.
- “Duck”, called the fox, “now I must eat you up. I’m shaking with the hunger”.
- Yes fox, dear friend. I know, I’m standing waiting for you. I hope it will be tasty for you. Impatiently, the fox ran to the duck.
- … suddenly the ground went from under his feet. Help, get me out of here immediately, he roared from anger.
- But the happy duck walked home. During the night she heard the cry of the wolf.
- The next day the duck went back to take a look in the hole. Dear duck”, begged the crying wolf, “get me out of here. I promise you that I will never eat ducks again.” “If you promise that, I will help you,” said the duck.
- And she took from home a sturdy rope and pulled the fox up. The fox was so happy. To quench the hunger of the fox, the clever duck brought the fox some food to eat.
- “Duck “, said the satisfied fox, when he had his belly full, “I love you, do you want to marry me?” “No” , she said, “I won’t marry you. Foxes love ducks too much. But we can be friends.
